DISTINGUISHED VINEYARDS

Estate Vineyard Properties

Our 1,743 acres of estate vineyards are a vital part of what separates Distinguished Vineyards from other wineries. By farming our own grapes, our winemakers have access to exceptional fruit from the Willamette Valley, Sonoma Coast, Napa Valley and Marlborough growing regions. With an unwavering commitment to the land and the communities in which we live and do business, each of our estate vineyard sites is certified sustainable by leading organizations in their respective regions.

Knudsen Vineyard

Argyle Winery
Knudsen Vineyards has been Argyle’s foundation vineyard source since 1987, located in the heart of the Dundee Hills AVA. Pioneering owner Cal Knudsen planted almost half the acreage in the early ‘70s, giving the Dundee Hills considerable mass. A leader in quality innovation for the entire region, Cal was at the forefront of significant vineyard improvements in irrigation, higher vine densities, clonal selection, and conversion from own-rooted to root-stocked vines.

Lone Star Vineyard

Argyle Winery

At Lone Star Vineyard the vines are treated to a sweeping view of the Cascades, from Mt. Rainier in the north to the Three Sisters in the south. While the view is stunning, this low-elevation, warm site is a magnet for the two forces crucial for ripening grapes: light and heat. Lone Star is Argyle’s warmest, sunniest vineyard site in a region not known for either – and in Oregon, the warmest sites are the best Pinot Noir sites. Lone Star catches the day’s first rays of sun and the rocky soils retain heat at night.

Spirit Hill Vineyard

Argyle Winery
Planted in 2008, this is Argyle’s high elevation vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills region, planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier which are provide the backbone for Argyle’s methode champenoise sparkling wines. Spirit Hill sits on top of the Eola-Amity Hills and is shaped like an open bowl, with aspects and exposure in every direction lending to a diverse range of grapes that are farmed with site specific intention. This elevation, in combination with Van Duzer Corridor’s gusty winds has made Spirit Hill Vineyard a highly regarded, very cool climate growing site.

Giving Tree Vineyard

Argyle Winery
In 2015, Argyle developed this 138 acre property in the Willamette Valley. With a predominately western exposure, Giving Tree Vineyard is a gently sloping site that features well-drained Bellpine marine sedimentary soils. Located just three miles from the famed Freedom Hill Vineyard in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range, Giving Tree Vineyard is a relatively cool site, with a climate shaped by winds that blow regularly, cooling the vines, lengthening the growing season, and helping the fruit retain excellent acidity.  It is this hallmark acidity that results in wines which are fresh and vibrant upon release and are equally suitable for long term aging – a common thread woven through all of Argyle’s wines.

Yountville Ranch Vineyard

Markham Vineyards
Originally planted more than 150 years ago, this legendary 78-acre vineyard sits along the southern edge of the Rutherford Bench in the Yountville District, known as the “beating heart” of Napa Valley. Ancient volcanic action along the western Mayacamas range created alluvial fans — deposits of clay, silt, sand and gravel — deep below the well-drained soils. Yountville Ranch offers exceptional terroir for growing the classic Bordeaux red grape varietals of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

Little Cannon Vineyard

Markham Vineyards
Markham’s southernmost estate, Little Cannon Vineyard includes 75 acres of Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. While the white grape varietals produce wines with natural acidity, along with bright citrus aromas and flavors, the Merlot grown here offers small berries and is influenced by the cooling winds from the San Pablo Bay.  This cooler estate vineyard offers concentrated flavors of red cherries and vibrant acidity to our Merlot.

Rarangi Vineyard

Wither Hills Winery
Where the vines are cooled by the delicate sea breeze, Rarangi Vineyard combines a spectacular site situated ¼ mile from the coastline of New Zealand’s famed Cloudy Bay.  Interlaced with native wetlands, the site combines a unique mixture of soils ranging from pea gravels to uplifted seabed. Planted in 2002, this vineyard lies below the coastal foothills of the Richmond Ranges on New Zealand’s South Island. It offers a unique microclimate for wine growing with its soils formed by the coastal waters’ edge and natural wetland waterways.
Rarangi is also home to Wither Hills Wetlands Conservation Project. The Rarangi Wetlands form part of the largest freshwater complex in the Wairau Plains.
